Benefits of a WMS – ERP integration: Case Laceup-QuickBooks

Today I have some wonderful news I want to share with you: After many years of alliance, we have partnered with Intuit QuickBooks. This is great news for medium and small distributors since with this integration of the ERP with our WMS they will be able to have a system that will integrate their main processes at a low cost and high customer service. In this article, I will talk about ERP integration, its advantages for distribution companies, and what a partnership with QuickBooks means.

What is an ERP integration

ERP Integration is the method by which a business connects its software with other applications. ERP integration gives you a unified view of information from different systems in real time, as illustrated in the graphic below.

Benefits of a WMS and an ERP integration

Distributors are constantly struggling to maintain profit margins that, in today’s economy, are permanently shrinking. Optimizing efficiency and reducing costs is essential in these conditions, and an ERP integration with your WMS will do that and improve your ability to compete. These are some of the benefits you will have with such an ERP integration.

Eliminate data silos: A data silo is a collection of retained data generated by one system that is not easily or fully accessible by other systems in the company. ERPs and WMSs have a lot of data of the same type that needs to be shared; both have inventory, sales orders, received orders, delivered orders, etc.. Not having these two systems integrated leads to redundancy, inefficiency, and inaccurate data.

Eliminate manual data entry. Without ERP integration, the data share between the ERP and WMS must be done manually. This means double the time to run processes, additional labor to do manual entry, and exposure to human error.

It has a single data base for the main information of your operation.

It provides Real-Time and Accurate Data. By having ERP integration with the WMS, the data from one of the systems used by the other to start its process, is immediately available.

Benefits of the Laceup and QuickBooks partnership

QuickBooks is one of the most popular accounting software for small businesses that have partnerships with over 512 companies that allow them to offer ERP solutions. We have been working with QuickBooks customers for 20 years and, in fact, we have built our entire business on the back of QuickBooks. Sharing information between Laceup WMS and QuickBooks was done via API modules (read our article on “Integrations” for details on this). However, the absence of a partnership has provided a certain level of segmentation to the market, i.e., some Laceup customers that don’t have QuickBooks, and some QuickBooks customers that don’t have Laceup.

But thanks to the recent partnership we are now able to spin up a DSD Warehouse accounting integration and implementation in a few short minutes, with a couple of clicks. This will result in several benefits for our existing and future customers, such as:

  • Lower costs due to economies of scale.
  • Provide better customer support becauseour customers are going to get their problems resolved every time they need something from QuickBooks as quickly as possible.
  • Our customers can have a bundled QuickBooks-WMS solution at lower rates and faster setup.

I hope this article has been helpful to you. I will continue to post information related to warehouse management, distribution practices and trends, and the economy in general.
